General

Nils Olsson Dalahästar is known for its genuine craftsmanship, where every Dala horse is handcrafted and painted using traditional methods passed down through generations. Here, history, culture, and quality come together in every detail.



No, you do not need to book your visit in advance if you want to see our production and visit our shop. Guided tours are available at certain times, and if you would like to join a guided tour, the tour itself must be booked.


The horses are measured from the foot to the ear. The measurement is approximate and may vary slightly.


Visits

You will experience a genuine workshop environment and see how a Dala horse is made — from sawing the blank to sanding, filling, dipping, and decorative painting. You will also have the opportunity to visit our shop featuring Dala horses and other beautiful handicrafts.


That is entirely up to you and what you would like to experience. If you only want to see the production and visit the shop, you can do so in about 30 minutes. If you would also like to try painting your own horse, you should allow 1.5 to 2 hours if you do not want to rush.


Yes, it is child-friendly. Children usually love trying to paint their own horse and seeing all the horses in the shop. In the production area, children must always be supervised by an adult. You are visiting an active factory where production is ongoing, and paint and sharp tools are present.

Yes, all our horses are authentic, and every genuine Dala horse is made here in Nusnäs.


Yes, we have all horses from our assortment available in our shop. Occasionally, a specific model may be temporarily sold out. All horses are handcrafted by us.

Practical Information

Yes, there is a large parking area where parking is free. We also offer motorhome parking spaces. If you would like to stay overnight with your motorhome, the cost is SEK 250 per night.


Yes, there is a ramp at the main entrance as well as a ground-level entrance with no height differences. Accessible restrooms are also available.


Yes, during the summer our café offers delicious fika and light lunches. During other times of the year, the selection is more limited, but you can always buy a cup of coffee and something small to go with it. Read more about the café here.
